Clearance 5 — The Wilderness
| Location | Island interior forest and wilderness routes |
| Challenge type | Exploration / Pokémon challenge |
| Story choice | None |
| Tone | Breathing room — but Colress is following something |
What Happens
The research team needs survey data from the island’s interior forest. Wild Pokémon activity has spiked since the power plant incident — territories have shifted, some species are appearing where they shouldn’t, and two survey teams have turned back. The player is sent to complete the survey and clear the route.
This is the widest, most open section of the game before the ruins. The forest is genuinely beautiful — old trees, unusual Pokémon, routes that feel like exploration for its own sake. After the tension of the power plant, this section is meant to breathe.
The challenge: Navigate the forest, complete the survey, handle the disrupted Pokémon territories.
Colress is out here. He’s not surveying. He’s following a trail of Glitch disturbances deeper into the trees — small ones, easy to miss. He doesn’t explain what he’s looking for. He seems happy.
Key Moments
- First large natural area — the island is genuinely wild and interesting beyond the infrastructure
- Pokémon out of place: species that don’t belong in this ecosystem, clustered near faint Glitch traces
- Colress encountered mid-forest: will share an observation if spoken to — “Have you noticed they follow the same paths every time? That’s not animal behaviour. That’s a pattern.”
- Looker can be found here, half-hidden, watching a Helix Corp patrol. He doesn’t approach yet — but he clocks the player
What the Player Learns
- The Glitch Effect is influencing wild Pokémon behaviour across the whole island
- Porygon-3’s reach extends further than anyone has officially acknowledged
- Something — or someone — has been moving through this forest with purpose
Converging Path
No choice. Linear beat. Looker’s presence here sets up his approach in Clearance 6. All players proceed to Clearance 6.
