History Timeline

The Three Layers

The island’s history has three distinct layers, each built on top of the last. Each layer either misunderstood or deliberately obscured what came before.

Layer 1 — The Ruins (Ancient)

Before any modern organisation. Before recorded history.

The island possessed anomalous energy properties long before humans arrived. Ancient structures — origin unknown — are scattered across it. Pokémon have lived here far longer than any human presence.

This is the reason the island was ever found worth investigating. The ruins are not decoration — they are the source of the island’s properties and the reason everything that followed happened here and not somewhere else.

⚠️ Who built the ruins? See Open Questions.

Layer 2 — Team Rocket’s Era

The first modern organisation on the island.

Team Rocket was drawn here by the ruins and the energy anomalies. They established the island’s first research infrastructure and initiated Project Porygon-3.

Key facts:

Silph Co. was never a rival — they were an unwitting contractor. Rocket let them do the work, then returned as Helix Corp once the groundwork was laid. Less an invasion, more a landlord coming back to collect.

Layer 3 — Silph Co.'s Arrival (Recent)

The newer company. The current face of innovation on the island.

Silph Co. arrived after Rocket, took over the infrastructure, and has been pushing the research further — believing it was their own discovery. They are victims of a manipulation, not willing participants.

They did nothing wrong intentionally. They just never asked the right questions about who built what they inherited — and the Silph Brothers signed off on the contracts.

The Current Expedition

Presented as a fresh start. Led by Professor Fennel. It is not a fresh start.

The expedition arrived believing the island was newly discovered or newly opened. The actual history — Rocket’s infrastructure, Silph Co.'s unwitting role, the project buried beneath both — is what the player uncovers.
